CAGR Calculator
Find what your annual growth rate works out to—the steady yearly percentage that gets your money from the start value to the end value.
What CAGR tells you
CAGR is your yearly growth rate when you smooth out all the ups and downs. Instead of saying an FD jumped around wildly, CAGR gives you one clean number to compare it against other investments.
It's useful when you want to compare investments of different lengths—say a 3-year FD versus a 5-year equity SIP. But remember, it hides the bumps along the way. Look at the actual performance too, not just the CAGR. More tools are in our finance calculators.
Common questions
How is CAGR different from total return?
Total return is your overall percentage gain for the full period. CAGR takes that and converts it into a yearly rate, which makes it easy to compare a 3-year investment against a 7-year one.
Does CAGR account for volatility?
No, it only looks at the start and end points. Two funds with the same CAGR could have had completely different ups and downs in between. Think of CAGR as a summary, not the whole picture.
Can CAGR be negative?
Yes. If you end up with less than you started with, your CAGR is negative—that's your average yearly rate of loss.
