GST Calculator

Enter a price and pick a GST rate to see the base amount, the tax, and whether it's split as CGST/SGST or IGST. Flip it around if the price already includes tax.

Understanding GST

GST is a tax percentage added to most prices in India. Say an item costs ₹1,000 at 18% GST: the tax is ₹180, so you pay ₹1,180 total. At 12%, the tax would be ₹120.

When you buy within one state, the GST splits in half: one half (CGST) goes to the central government and one half (SGST) goes to the state. When a sale crosses state lines, it's charged as IGST instead—but the total you pay is the same. You can also work backwards if you know a price includes tax already. Common questions

What's the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?

Within a state, GST splits in two: CGST (central) and SGST (state) each take half. When a sale crosses state lines, it's IGST (integrated) instead. The total tax amount is the same no matter which way it's split.

How do I extract GST from a price that already includes it?

Turn on "This amount includes GST". The calculator will treat your figure as the final price and work backwards to show the base price and the hidden tax.

What GST rate should I use?

It depends on the product. Most fall into 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%, and some are tax-free. Rates change and vary by item, so check what applies to your product.
