Discount Calculator

See the final price and how much you save when a percentage discount is applied.

How discounts work

A discount lowers the price by a percentage of the original. Multiply the price by the discount percentage to get the saving, then subtract it to get what you actually pay.

Watch out for "discount on discount" offers, which apply the second cut to the already-reduced price, not the original. For more everyday math like this, see our finance calculators.

Common questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the saving, then subtract that from the price. This tool does both steps at once.

How do stacked discounts work?

A second discount usually applies to the price after the first, not the original, so two 20% cuts are not the same as 40% off. Apply them one after another.

Is sales tax added before or after the discount?

Tax is generally charged on the discounted price, so the discount comes first and the tax is worked out on what's left.
